Key Identification Features
- Cap 5–15 cm, pale greenish-yellow to olive, smooth. Gills white, free. White skirt-like ring on upper stem. White sac-like volva (cup) at base — often underground, always dig to examine. White spore print. Responsible for ~90% of fatal mushroom poisonings worldwide.
Symptoms & Toxicity
Phase 1 (6–24 hr): severe nausea, vomiting, profuse diarrhea, abdominal cramping. Phase 2 (24–48 hr): apparent recovery — dangerous false improvement. Phase 3 (2–4 days): fulminant hepatic failure, AST/ALT often >10,000, jaundice, coagulopathy, acute kidney injury.
