Key Identification Features
- Cap 1.5-8 cm, caramel-brown fading to pale buff when dry. Gills gray-brown to dark purple-brown at maturity. Stem bruises blue-green when damaged — diagnostic. Ring present on stem. Grows on cattle dung and enriched soils in Florida and Gulf Coast. Dark purple-brown spore print.
Symptoms & Toxicity
Onset 30 min-1 hr: psilocybin effects — hallucinations, altered perception, confusion. Most presentations are anxiety/panic. Hyperthermia and serotonin-like syndrome at very high doses, especially with SSRIs/MAOIs.
